At the beginning of a new year, many of us evaluate our Bible reading for the past year and make resolutions to do better in the next year. There are some very good reasons why we should commit ourselves to regular (daily) Bible reading. Here are just a few benefits you get from feeding on God’s Word.
- It gives you power to overcome sin.
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
- It gives you direction and clarity for your future.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.”
- It is your weapon against temptation.
Matthew 4:3-4 says, “And the tempter came and said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.’ But he answered, ‘It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”‘”
- It will bring you true freedom.
John 8:31-32 says, “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'”
- It will lead you to fruitfulness and success.
Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
- It will lead you to salvation and show you how to live God’s way.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
